MW Pensions has been revealed as one of the firms being investigated as part of a £2.5m pension tax fraud.
The Merseyside-based SIPP provider says it is taking legal action against HMRC after some of its directors were arrested last month and released on bail. HMRC confirmed last month that it arrested 11 people on suspicion of tax fraud, and has released them pending further enquiries. MW Pensions has sent a letter to clients explaining it will be seeking legal action against HMRC, claiming the firm had offered to assist in the enquiries before a large number of files and computers were seized.
