FTSE shines on copper increase

The FTSE 100 has ended the session up 50.6 points, or 0.8%, to 6,366.1, as miners led the index higher on improving copper prices.

Rio Tinto led the gains among the mining sector with a rise of 3.7% to £29.95, closely followed by Kazakhmys which advanced 3.55% to 311.96, while Xstrata climbed 3.39% to £26.84. However ICI posted the biggest gains with a rise of 7.09% to 539.75p, while Wolseley advanced 3.24% to 312.44, although gains were limited by DSG International which slipped 0.58% to 170p. Enterprise Inns was the biggest loser with a fall of 0.76% to 651p, closely followed by Drax which dropped 0.63% to 782.5p, while Land Securities slipped 0.6% to £21.61, and SABMiller declined 0.53% to £11.17.
