Property IHT 'shock' in eight years

In less than a decade, the average homeowner nationwide will become liable for IHT, according to price research from Stroud & Swindon Building Society.

However, the regional variations between markets are such the tipping point will occur in London within the year, while those in the South-east and East Anglia will face the challenge in four and six years respectively. The ongoing increase in the IHT threshold of 3% annually is insufficient even to insulate traditionally untouched markets such as Scotland, Northern Ireland and the North West, Stroud & Swindon's figures suggest.
