Hedge fund manager Qbasis Invest is launching an ETF based on its flagship fund in Europe at the start of next month.
The Lichtenstein-based manager received approval this week to market its Qbasis Futures fund in Austria. Qbasis Invest co-founder Philipp Poelzl says the firm also hopes to receive similar authorization in the UK in coming weeks. The launch adds to the list of ETFs based on hedge funds, including Marshall Wace's MW Tops Global Alpha Dublin-listed product. Poelzl says Qbasis's computer-driven managed futures strategy made 70% in 2007, then 145% in 2008, before falling 15% last year. He adds this gave back about 10% of 2008's gains.
