BP shares buoyed on news majority of spill 'dealt with'

BP's shares rose 2.36% to 425.45p at 3.15pm following the news almost three-quarters of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has been cleaned-up or broken down by natural forces.

White House energy adviser Carol Browner announced today only a quarter of the leaked oil posed any further danger to the environment, the BBC reports. The majority has either been captured, burned off, or evaporated, she says. Browner was speaking hours after BP announced its "static kill" procedure had been successful. "The scientists are telling us about 25% was not captured or evaporated or taken care of by mother nature," says Browner on the ABC television network.
