More than three-quarters of respondents to a consultation on a £140 a week single-tier state pension back the proposal, the government has said.
The consultation responses set the stage for a radical overhaul of the state pension system. An option of one flat rate state pension (without the state second pension and pension credit) was preferred by the majority of respondents over the second option to speed up existing plans to have a flat rate state second pension. The consultation elicited 1,600 responses from individuals and 102 from stakeholder groups. Ministers will now bring forward costed proposals on the reforms.
