Zurich has seen a 4% rise in the number of income protection claims settled in favour of the claimant in the first six months of the year, paying out to 94% of cases.
The insurer paid out a total of £6.3m to 750 income protection claimants, including 60 new claims. The vast majority of successful claims were accepted from a medical perspective, with musculoskeletal (12 claims), mental health (10 claims), cancer (9 claims), and neurological conditions, including strokes (9 claims), featuring among the top condictions. The rejected 6% of claims were due to the definition of disability not being met, the insurer said.
