The competence of the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has been called into question after its dealings with British Steel workers' pension transfer-related complaints were described as "inconsistent".
Speaking at the Pension Debate III conference in London on Wednesday (7 November) Clarke Willmott solicitor Philippa Hann - who is also representing steelworkers advised by Active Wealth UK - told delegates of inconsistencies she had faced with the FOS. Hann told the audience she had submitted 25 complaints to the ombudsman relating to Gallium Fund Solutions - a discretionary fund manager (DFM) involved in the British Steel saga - after claims were made that Active Wealth invested its clients into a Newscape-owned fund via the DFM.
