Bailie Gifford client services manager Alison Cuthburt has told advisers to ask their fund manager how they measure success when it come to investing sustainably.
Speaking at the inaugural PA360 Digital conference on 7 October, Cuthbert said advisers should ask what approach the fund manager is taking and whether that is inclusive or exclusive. "Exclusion means they're avoiding sectors, companies or industries that are generally causing harm. Things like fossil fuels, gambling, or ammunition. "With inclusion, it means the manager is looking to invest in companies with the goal of generating a social and environmental impact as well as financial returns."
