Structures designed around the FTSE 100 have dominated the retail structured product market for a number of years. However, the past 12 months has seen a noticeable increase in the number of products linked to alternative indices or dual and multiple underlyings. The FTSE 100 is familiar to investors, it is perceived as a UK index, but since it also contains a large number of international players and so gives exposure to global trends, it can be viewed also as a diversified play both geographically and in terms of industries.
