Following Sandringham Financial Partners' decision to go independent earlier this week, PA thought it was time to revisit some of the most memorable status switches in recent years…

Much like industry debates over ‘active vs. passive', ‘human vs. robo-adviser', arguments on either side of the ‘restricted vs. independent' discussion have evolved with the regulatory backdrop. Post-Retail Distribution Review (RDR) it was thought the restricted model would grow, points out Sandringham Financial Partners chief executive Tim Sargisson. This group of advisers, however, now make up just an eighth (13%) of the market.
