With increased media and political attention on climate and other environmental and social issues, advisers can expect more questions from clients on these topics in 2022, according to recent research from Schroders.
Its survey showed that in 2019, 43% of advisers said their fund selection process included ESG factors. By the end of 2021 that figure had almost doubled to 81%. Environmental issues are foremost in clients' minds, but S and G might catch up in 2022 and beyond, according to Schroders. When asked about clients' areas of interest, advisers reported that their clients were roughly four times more interested in "E" (environmental issues) than "G" (governance-related issues), its data suggested.
