Average house price crosses £200k

The average house price in the UK has passed the £200,000 level, according to the Department for Communities & Local Government.

Figures from the DCLG reveal the average house price in the UK in December 2006 stood at £201,090 compared with £199,238 in November. UK annual house price inflation in December was 9.9%, up from 8.8% in November, while in London it was 11.8% in December, up from 9.9% in November. The annual house price inflation rate for the three months to December was 9.1% and 10.7% in London. DCLG says the rise in prices between November and December can be attributed to rises in average prices for flats (2.6%), bungalows (2.2%), semi-detached houses (1.6%) and terraced houses (0.8%).
