Brown hints at mortgage lending reform

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has hinted he will make reforms to mortgage and small business lending rules.

He also suggested the Government will step in to make it harder for lenders to repossess homes from borrowers falling into arrears. Speaking at his monthly press conference, Brown says the Government wants to enhance the mortgage code to give people reassurance they won’t have their home repossessed. Further details of the Government’s plans will be revealed in a statement by Business Secretary Peter Mandelson later today.
