THE FINANCIAL SERVICES AUTHORITY has lost friends at the Treasury it seems - contrary to suggestions from the FSA last week - as the Chancellor has thrown his weight behind Tony Blair's criticism of the regulator, says this morning's Daily Telegraph .
As reported on IFAonline this week, Blair accused the FSA in a speech on May 26 of being "hugely inhibiting of efficient business", however this was a stance which the FSA at first believed was the opposite of support they had seen from a speech the previous day by Brown. Since then, however, FSA chairman Callum McCarthy has apparently written a furious letter to Brown and the Treasury has since replied by stating the chancellor "is at one with" Blair's comments because the chancellor is aware businesses are fed up with the amount of red tape they have to deal with.
