Bonus recipients resist urge to spend

More than half of bonus recipients saved, invested or reduced their mortgage over the last 12 months, according to research from Birmingham Midshires.

The survey of 2,000 people reveals 39% of bonus recipients saved all or most of their annual bonus over the last 12 months, 9% used their payout to reduce their mortgage and 6% put the money into other types of investments. But some people were unable to resist the temptation to spend – 12% rewarded themselves with a holiday and 11% bought electrical goods such as i-pods and plasma TVs. Those in the Midlands and Wales were most likely to save, invest or pay off their mortgage (64%), while 45% of Londoners saved their bonus, 10% splurged on a luxury holiday and 9% paid a lump sum off the...
