The past three years has seen the percentage of towns where it is unaffordable for key workers to live increase dramatically figures from Halifax reveal.
The lender says the percentage of towns where it is now unaffordable for nurses to live has risen from 55% in 2001 to 93% today and from 34% to 77% for teachers. The proportion of towns in which it has become unaffordable for policeman and fire fighters to live has also risen from 34% to 71% and 56% to 90% respectively. Halifax says the affordability problems facing key workers now stretch well beyond the borders of London claiming the proportion of towns in the North in which these difficulties have arisen for nurses has increased from a mere 13% three years ago to 79% now and from 13% ...
