No change in April house prices says Halifax

UK house prices remained unchanged in April, leaving annualised inflation at 7.8% and the average house price at £163,615, according to the latest monthly Halifax index figures.

The lender says the figures also indicate there has been no movement in prices since January, and that the latest annualised figure is in line with the historical average inflation rate of 8%. What has changed, however, is a firming up of the market, with Halifax’ own estate agents confirming trends reported by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the Bank of England, suggesting that while there has been no great recovery neither is the overall number of sales continuing to fall as they did last year.
