Rising oil prices on cold weather has helped the FTSE up about 6 points to 6,234 this morning.
BP and Shell are both up as they benefit directly in rising profits for each dollar per barrel increase in the crude oil price. BP is up 2.5p to 542.5p, and Shell ‘A’ is up 11p to £17.33. Yell, publisher of telephone directories, is up 8p to 607p after analysts pointed to strong US business as a precursor of things to come in markets such as the UK. British Airways is up 7.5p to 535p, although no agreement with cabin staff set to strike later this week has yet officially been announced – talks with unions are continuing.
