ALED Smith is to take on the £270m M&G Asian fund, assuming management responsibilities from Hong Kong-based Neil Mackay.
Smith is currently manager of the £871m Global Leaders and £560m American funds. Mackay works for Prudential Asset Management, a subsidiary of M&G’s parent company Prudential. He took on the fund in December in an interim capacity following the resignation of Nick Scott. The portfolio is a laggard in comparison to Smith’s other funds and it is hoped his investment approach will turn performance around.
