House prices jumped 2.6% in Q2

House prices rose by an average 2.6% in the first six months of the year but are still almost 11% down on a year ago, latest figures from the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) suggest.

According to the DCLG, there was also a 2.4% price rise for bungalows, a 2.2% increase for flats and a 1.9% jump for semi-detached houses. Overall, UK house prices were 10.7% lower than in June 2008, compared with a fall of 12.7% in the year to May. The mix-adjusted average house price in the UK was £191,423 in June 2009. Between May and June there was a rise of 1.6% in the price index of properties bought compared with a fall of 0.7% over the same period last year, resulting in a decrease in the annual fall of house prices.
