House prices have returned to 2008 levels, according to Nationwide Building Society.
The Nationwide House Price Index revealed the average house price increased for the fifth consecutive month to £160,159, a level not seen since October 2008. For the UK as a whole, prices rose by 3.7% in the third quarter, leading to an increase in the annual rate of change from -11.7% in the second quarter to -3.0%. In England, the strongest performance was seen in the South West, where prices rose by 4.9% over the quarter. The annual rate of change moved up from -13.2% to -1.6%.
