House prices rise again but outlook flat - Halifax

UK house prices climbed 1% in December compared with the previous month, marking the sixth consecutive month-on-month increase, according to the Halifax.

Prices were 1.1% higher last month than in December 2008, the first annual rise in 22 months. Although the average house price is now more than £169,000, the Halifax says it expects property values to remain flat in 2010 owing to economic conditions. "The prospects for the market this year will depend on how the UK economy evolves and whether there is a significant increase in the supply of properties for sale," Halifax housing economist Martin Ellis says.
