A proposed addition to the controversial Home Information Pack (HIP) that every property seller is obliged to pay for could play into the hands of thieves.
The Home Office has proposed that each HIP, which currently contains an Energy Performance Certificate, floor plans and searches, should also include a ‘security assessment'. Such an assessment would pinpoint the security weaknesses of every home for sale in the UK, which could offer burglars a guide to the easiest properties to target. When HIPs were introduced in 2007 the Government explicitly ruled out the need for them to provide sensitive information such as security details.
