BlackRock's US iShares arm has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an MSCI China Index fund.
The ETF would be the firm's fifth fund tracking Chinese equities, as iShares already offers ETFs on the FTSE China, MSCI China Small Cap, FTSE/Xinhua China 25 and MSCI Hong Kong as well as its MSCI BRIC ETF, weighted nearly 37% towards China. The proposed ETF's underlying index, MSCI China, tracks the performance of the top 85% of Chinese equity securities as measured by market capitalization.
