Japan's monster quake on Thursday night sent markets crashing, with all the major indices dropping at least a percent. The disaster measured 8.8 on the Ritcher scale and killed hundreds. Pension reform dominated the national debate this week. Final salary public sector pensions will be phased out in favour of cheaper career average schemes by 2015, Lord Hutton said on Thursday morning. Teachers to fireman and the police are threatening to revolt in widespread strikes.
