RDR could hit workplace pension scheme engagement - Capita

The shift towards fees brought about by the Retail Distribution Review (RDR) could lead to a reduction in pension scheme member engagement, according to Capita's head of DC Paul Sturgess.

Speaking at the Pensions and Benefits Show, Sturgess said that while past charging structures were "incomprehensible" they did provide advisers with a "hard motivation to drive increased membership and contributions". In addition, these structures also facilitated member engagement strategies like one to one meetings. "Only the more enlightened and wealthy employers will be able to replicate one to ones and member surgeries in a fee-based environment," he said.
