Fund managers' pay could surpass investment bankers' by 2016

A report by think-tank New Financial has suggested fund manager pay may overtake that of investment bankers by 2016, following a sharp rise since the financial crisis.

The average pay per employee at asset management groups has increased by one fifth, to $263,000 (£171,000) since before the crisis, research found. This means that average pay for asset managers is now more than 90% than at investment banks, where the average compensation cost per employee is $288,000. A decade ago, it was half that amount. The paper looked at 12 investment banks or investment banking divisions of larger groups, and 18 asset managers, where information was publically available.
