Quarter of Brits unaware of govt pension top-ups

A quarter of Brits are unaware the government topped up their pension contributions, BlackRock's Investor Pulse survey has found.

Some 16 million Brits are unaware that the government boosts their pension contributions in the form of tax relief, according to the research. Of those, 27% would increase their regular contribution if they knew the government topped it up, the survey, which polled 4,000 people in the UK, found. Typically, UK workers contribute 2% of their annual salary - which is on average £27,000 - into their pension, generating an extra £135 per year in contribution from the government through tax relief, BlackRock said.
