Friday the 13th is generally considered to be the most unlucky or inauspicious of dates - so how do markets, advisers and investors cope with superstition when the day comes around?

Despite Friday 13's widely recognised reputation, few financial stories have actually emanated from it.  One of the only market stories clouding the day happened in 1989. On Friday 13 in October the US experienced a crash that was caused by a reaction to the news a $6.75bn leveraged buyout deal for United Airlines fell through. By the time markets closed at the end of the day, the S&P 500 had fallen 6.12% (21.74 points), according to the Wall Street Examiner.
