The government has removed an amendment to the Financial Guidance and Claims bill that would have seen people automatically enrolled into guidance if they were taking benefits under pension freedom or transferring benefits.
Instead, providers will be required to ask customers looking to access the freedoms or transfer whether they have received "appropriate pensions guidance or appropriate independent financial advice". If someone indicates they have not received appropriate guidance or advice, the provider must either suggest the person seeks some or ask whether they would rather wait until they have received such guidance or advice, or would like to proceed with the application without having received it.
