Parliament says DB remains 'of critical importance'

The Work and Pensions Committee (WPC) has launched an inquiry to review defined benefit (DB) schemes.

The inquiry will review the challenges and opportunities DB schemes pose to members, trustees, employers and The Pensions Regulator (TPR). The WPC said despite DB schemes declining in the private sector, they remain of "critical importance". The government committee is asking a series of questions about DB schemes including whether the right regulatory framework is in place to enable those that are open to thrive, and whether there is sufficient capacity in the buyout market to meet demand from DB schemes.
