Just a couple of weeks ago was half-term and I had a splendid time with the kids. Of particular delight to the children was a visit to the local theme park, with an abundance of nausea-inducing rides followed by an over-sweetened candy floss chaser.
As the afternoon wore on, over-excitement drifted into tiredness and tears fell. Meanwhile, my wallet was distinctly emptier than it had been at the start of the day. Such are today’s costs of being a parent. Of course, another cost that is worrying many parents today is inheritance tax, the payment of which, unlike the activities we enjoyed at half-term, brings no pleasure whatsoever.
