(Unelected) Ros Altmann takes centre stage as pensions minister

"I am not 'tribal' in my political allegiances. I don't blindly follow a particular party or ideology. But putting Labour back in charge at this time could be disastrous for the United Kingdom." So wrote Ros Altmann on Thursday 30 April 2015.

The following election saw the Conservative Party return to Downing Street with a small majority and the Liberal Democrat party almost eradicated from Parliament. Bringing the momentous events round to a pensions-focus it means a new minister in charge of the brief.  Liberal Democrat Steve Webb lost his seat, along with many of his ministerial colleagues. Webb was the longest serving pensions minister in the history of the post lasting a full five years.
