This month the US enters its tenth year of economic expansion and, while corporate earnings may be growing strongly, some commentators are sceptical that this expansion can last. We are optimistic it can for two reasons, however. For one thing, the expansion has been gradual - as is typical of the type that is seen following a financial crisis - and, for another, there is little near-term chance of rising policy rates leading to an inverted yield curve, the precursor of all post-war recessions.
