Glory for a Welshman in last month's Tour de France has left David Coombs pondering what might have been while also reminding him to be grateful for team players - in investment as much as cycling

It was really pleasing to see Geraint Thomas - many times the ‘domestique' - win this year's Tour de France. ‘Domestique' is French for ‘servant' and, in cycling, it denotes a team player, a supporter in the background, and Thomas is one who has finally emerged as a solo star. Since his victory last month, his school - Whitchurch High in Cardiff - has received bundles of media attention, given that footballer Gareth Bale and former Lions captain Sam Warburton are also alumni.
