Workplace pension saving continues to rise - latest DWP figures

More than 80% of eligible employees contributed to a workplace pension in 2017, according to latest government figures.

Statistics from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) showed 84% of workers who qualified to be in a workplace pension actively took part last year. This was an increase of 7% on 2016 when 77% had saved into a workplace pension, it said. This compares to between 2007 and 2012, when there was a general downward trend in workplace pension participation, from 60% to a low of 55%. However, since 2012, when auto-enrolment came into force, participation has steadily increased.
