Four years ago, my mother retired having had the fortune to work for the majority of her life with a final salary scheme pension. However, far from understanding its true value, most people do not fully appreciate what such benefits cost to supply personally. It took me some time to convince my parents that the pension was worth more than their house! We now have a future generation who has lost a benefit which they have no idea how to replace, let alone the cost required to replace it.
