The Pension Regulator's announcement that one million employees have been auto-enrolled into an occupational pension is a landmark.
However, despite this progress the figures show a further 1.7 million employees have been left out in the cold as they did not qualify for automatic enrolment. These include those earning less than the minimum threshold of £9,440, those under the age of 22 and those above state pension age. While it is to be hoped that those under the age of 22 will be auto-enrolled in future the real concern is workers earning less than £9,440.
