Self-certification lending to the self-employed and to other people on variable incomes hit record levels in 2001 for UCB Home Loans. Nationwide's specialist lender said its self-certification mortgage lending reached £1.12bn for the calendar year and the number of mortgages completed increased by 21% to 13,710. The group explains the growth is a result of the increasing number of people who are now self-employed coupled with a steady increase in employment that provides people with fluctuating levels of income throughout the year - as with some employment contracts in the bro...
