The Association of British Insurers and the British Bankers Association is commissioning a joint study into a possible merger and the impact it could have on the investment industry, following months of speculation that the two groups will become one. Officials say they see strong merit in principle to such a development, however, both orgnaisations would prefer to examine the practicalities of a merger before committing its members to any concrete plans.
