Mental health problems including anxiety and stress were the biggest cause of Group Income Protection (GIP) claims in the UK in 2007, research suggests.
A study by Canada Life Group Insurance (CLGI) found 32% of GIP claims it processed last year were as a result of mental health issues. It says stress in particular can be a common problem amongst employees as working hours increase and people feel under pressure to climb the career ladder. It adds the statistics highlight the importance of employers ensuring their employees are happy at work.
