Commodities boost FTSE close

The FTSE 100 has ended the session up 61.6 points, or 0.94%, to 6,640.9, as mining and oil stocks pushed the index well above 6,600.

Miner Vedanta Resources posted the biggest gains with a rise of 4.53% to £14.76, closely followed by Lonmin which added 2.78% to £38.44, while Royal Dutch Shell ‘B’ shares climbed 2.53% to £19.06. Kelda Group advanced 3.22% to 976.5p, while Drax added 2.9% to 816.5p, although gains were limited by property stocks British Land which fell 1.85% to £14.29, and Land Securities which slipped 1.46% to £18.90. However, British Airways was the biggest loser with a fall of 2.89% to 487p, as it confirmed operating profit had dropped, while Imperial Tobacco Group slipped 2.31% to £21.97, and Kingf...
