Barings to launch agriculture fund in Q3

Baring Asset Management will launch an agriculture fund later this year, aimed at tapping into the food-price led booming soft commodity sector.

Subject to regulatory approval, the UK-domiciled Investment Company with Variable Capital (ICVC) Baring Global Agriculture fund will be managed by Jonathan Blake. As the world’s population grows by around 80 million per year, Blake says food price pressure will become immense, while interest in biofuels will grow sharply. “Limited resources and bottlenecks mean that supply is struggling to keep pace with demand whilst global warming is likely to create additional pressure on supply in the years to come,” he says. “We therefore believe that agricultural investment is emerging as an attrac...
