Barclays up 9% on possible cash call

Barclays shares are soaring this morning as the bank announced a rights issue offer to existing shareholders is under "active consideration".

A statement to the stock exchange has led to a flurry of activity in early trading, with Barclays stock currently 9.04% ahead to 346.75. The possible cash call would add additional funding to the bank which is also widely expected to soon reveal it raised £4bn from a group of sovereign wealth funds. “Barclays notes recent speculation regarding the possible issuance of new equity by Barclays by way of a placing and pre-emptive offer to existing shareholders,” the statement reads. “The board of Barclays confirms this is currently under active consideration.” The Barclays news follows a re...
