Hendrik du Toit is remarkably modest about his achievements over the past 13 years. In 1991 he set up the asset management division of Investec in South Africa, with financial commitments of just $40m. Between the UK and South Africa, there is now almost £20bn under management.
The UK business was born when, five years ago, du Toit came to the UK on behalfof Investec and acquired Guinness Flight Hambro. Despite fierce competition froma tough UK market, he subsequently built up another successful asset managementbusiness. He now describes Investec as a super boutique'. Achievements have beenplentiful.
