A way to avoid IHT has been spotted by Abbey for Intermediaries in proposals for Alternatively Secured Pension rules within the Pensions Bill currently winding its way through Parliament.
This would be possible because ASP rules could enable occupational pension schemes to be used as virtual family trusts, AfI says. The Finance Bill published last month changed the definition of occupational pension schemes to the extent that people with no connections whatsoever to an employer can actually join their scheme, AfI says.
