The Conservatives have criticised the Treasury for being so 'secretive' over information relating to the removal of tax relief on dividends.
The Treasury has appealed a ruling by the independent Information Commissioner which currently forces it to reveal detailed information about the effects on pension schemes of the removal of tax relief on dividends in 1997. George Osbourne, shadow chancellor, says: "Why is Gordon Brown being so secretive? Millions of people have been affected by this decision and deserve to know whether Brown knew in advance the damage this was going to cause to the nation's pensions. What has he got to hide?"
