Despite the S&P Latin American index having fallen by more than 30pc in the last three months, Will Landers, manager of the BlackRock Latin American investment trust, remains bullish on the region's prospects.
Landers acknowledged concerns that Latin America's performance in recent years was solely fuelled by the commodities boom. However, he points out that while energy and raw materials industries are well represented in the region's economy, other areas of the economy are also enjoying vigorous growth. He added that Latin American economies tended to have low levels of debt, making them less exposed to the credit problems afflicting many of the developed economies.
