Dow advances on upbeat IMF forecast

The Dow Jones has risen 35.52 points (0.44%) to 8199.12 as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicted worldwide economic growth will recover to 2.5% in 2010.

The figure is substantially higher than the IMF's previous estimate of 1.9% made in April, with India and China expected to lead the surge. However, the IMF still says the global economy is set to shrink 1.4% this year. Alcoa has made the largest gains, up 3.19% to $9.71 in anticipation of its Q2 results, due after close of trading today. Experts predict the aluminium producer will report its third consecutive quarterly loss as lower demand from automakers and the construction industry keeps the lightweight metal's prices grounded.
